Trond Rolfsvåg – Guest speaker at London Petrophysical Society

On Thursday 06 November Hydrophilic presented at the London Petrophysical Society at Burlington House.

Our founder, Trond Rolfsvåg, made a speech on “Prototype HLT Pilot Testing”. His presentation showed the Prototype Hydrophilic Logging Tool (HLT) measures in-situ pressures relevant to hydrocarbon reservoirs, including reservoir water pressure (Pw) and the pressure differential between hydrocarbon and water (Pd). It also yields the effective water-film permeability in a hydrocarbon reservoir (Kw(Swi)) or the water permeability in shale (Kw).

During pilot testing, several weaknesses of the Prototype HLT were identified. The presentation highlighted the most critical learnings and described mitigations implemented to enhance both the tool and associated procedures. Data interpretation techniques and the capabilities of the Prototype HLT where illustrated using actual results from the successful HLT Pilot conducted in the North Sea in 2024.

The discussion also addressed measurements in reservoirs with perched water and the implications for interpretation.
