Nobody else can do this! And this is why.
Hydrophilic sets a new standard in reservoir intelligence – with patented technology that no one else can match.

After years of development, testing, and demonstration, Hydrophilic is now launching the Hydrophilic Logging Tool (HLT) to the international E & P market. With proprietary, patented technology – created by reservoir engineers – the company has developed a unique solution and a tool that unlocks the secrets of the reservoir in a way that was previously impossible.
New technology
Hydrophilic Probe Technology is the result of sophisticated engineering, deep reservoir understanding, and an uncompromising focus on precision. At the heart of the technology is the Hydrophilic Probe, capable of measuring the pressure within the microscopic water film that coats the grains inside the reservoir – where critical information about the water–hydrocarbon balance is found.
To enable this measurement, a custom-designed drilling tool has been developed. It drills a precise micro-hole through the borehole wall and into the undisturbed part of the formation. The combination of probe and tool makes it possible to accurately determine the Free-Water-Level (FWL) – the boundary between water and hydrocarbons – without having to drill through the contact itself.
This is not just technology. It is precision engineering at its finest.
Tested offshore – proven in the North Sea
Following proof-of-concept laboratory testing at the University of Strathclyde, independent and thorough verification by NORCE, conceptual tool design and prototype HLT manufacturing by Aarbakke Innovation, a joint industry project consisting of Hydrophilic, Equinor, Harbour Energy, Vår Energi and DNO carried out offshore demonstration in the North Sea in September 2024.
The demonstration confirmed that the technology performs under real reservoir conditions — delivering unique and precise data. This offshore demonstration marks a major milestone, proving that Hydrophilic’s solution is ready for industrial application.
Saving time, cost, and the environment
For oil companies, Hydrophilic’s technology means more than just better data – it represents major savings in time, resources, and emissions.
The ability to determine the hydrocarbon/water contact from the discovery well, without the need for appraisal wells, reduces the scope of drilling operations and eliminates unnecessary rig moves.
The result:
- More efficient exploration and appraisal
- Lower cost
- Lower emissions
On the Norwegian Continental Shelf, each avoided appraisal well can save the atmosphere ~ 4000 tons of CO₂ and 50 tons of NOx.
Nobody else can do this
Hydrophilic has proven it – both in the laboratory and offshore. Through engineering and a deep understanding of reservoir dynamics, the company delivers a tool that will transform the way the industry works.
